North-Ishinomaki

The town that new communities developing.
There are 4 town called Ogatsu town that faces Pacific ocean, Kitagami town that has Oiwake hot spring, Minowada that can see Mt.Joubon from and Monou town that most of its land are paddy fields. People who were damaged by Tohoku earthquake moved to the area called Kawanokami. Since then, Ishinomaki has been working on developing places and communities that people who have different background to live them together.

 Go up north about 8km(5miles) from Ishinomaki Station, you’ll find roadside station, Joubon no Sato.
After visted Kawanokami Hyappyoukan, go along Kitagami river to Tsuriishi Shrine.
Cross the river and go southeast and have delicious seafood at port town called Ogatsu no Yado is our recommendation.

Roadside station 「JOUBON-NO-SATO」

It has opened tenthly in Miyagi prefecture. Joubon, the name of the road station was named from Mt.Joubon which is the symbol of Kawakita area, Ishinomaki city. Regional development functions are veryfulfilled. For instance, the farm stand Hitakami, the restaurant Shiori that serves seasonal foods, and the hot spring facility Futago no Yu that can enjoy iron-containing chloride spring which is rare in Miyagi prefecture.

The lively library that you can do Ochacco.

Kawanokami Hyappyoukan

The library that has café has opened in 2015. Rice mill that was built with wood in Taisho period was repaired to the library to make new communities for the people in Kawanokami area who lost their houses by Tohoku earthquake. The library has about 3,000 books. Also, you can enjoy Ochacco(The custom that enjoying drinking tea and chattering with neighbors).

“Never Fall” Spiritual site.

Tsuriishi Shrine

The Shintai is a huge rock 14 meters around, and even numerous disasters couldn’t move it at all, so it is called ‘’Otoko Ishi’’. In addition, the deity of the shrine is Amenokoyanenomikoto who is known as the God of wisdom which Amaterasu Omikami performed ritual prayer when hiding behind the rock door of the heavenly cave from Amano iwato myth. Many worshippers visit Otoko Ishi to pray for academic achievement. Also, there is another huge rock which is boat form called ‘’Onna Ishi’’. They are known as couple rock, and they are believed that they have blessings of matchmaking, matrimonial happiness and prosperity of descendants.

A tourist and commercial base overlooking the rich sea

SUZURIJO-NO-SATO OGATSU

A facility on upland of Ogatsu center area with fantastic ocean view has been opened as a base of tourism and commerce.

【 Tourist product exchange facility OGATSU / TANAKOYA 】
There are seven stores in the facility. For instance, direct sales seafood market distinctive of Ogatsu area, and restaurants.

【 OGATSU - SUZURI Traditional Industry Hall 】
A facility that can enjoy exhibition of inkstones which is uncommon in Japan. They sales not only Ogatsu Inkstones which is traditional crafts but also other crafts.

MORIUMIASU ANNEX

In 2015, for the restoration from the disaster, renovated a closed school to composite experiential facility ‘’Moriumiasu’’ for children. The accommodation for adults ‘’Moriumiasu Annex’’ has been adjoined in 2017. It was designed by the architect, Yoshifumi Nakamura, and its roof is made of slates of Ogatsu Inkstone. They provide the program which is based on Ogatsu. There is a kitchen, so you can cook.

Fisher couple who live in Kuwahama Ogatsu town runs a guesthouse.

KUWAHAMA Fisher's guesthouse

In 2015, the couple Kitsuko and Seirou Konno opened the guesthouse to return the favor for those who visited Miyagi after the disaster. You can spend time in Kuwahama surrounded by ocean and forest, and they welcome with fresh seafood caught in front of the guesthouse and family ambience. Also, you can enjoy mountain walking and trying fishery work.
